While the spectators are on the cusp of baseball watching season, the players have been hard at work getting ready for the season. Strength training is extremely important in baseball, because a variety of muscle groups are used to play. Each position requires slightly different motions; for instance, a pitcher uses his arm more than a catcher, who uses his legs for squatting at home plate. Baseb all is broken up into four different parts of the year, and each includes a slightly different workout focus.
Early Pre-Season (January-February)
The early pre-season is used for more general workouts, such as running. These workouts will gradually shift into more intense workouts - the key here is to not start off too intensely, because that will add stress and strain to rested muscles, increasing the chance for injury. You want to get your body back in shape after the off-season before you start pushing it too hard. You want to start building your foundational strength, which basically your overall strength. The core muscles are most important to a baseball player; they facilitate movements such as turning, jumping, and twisting. Body weight exercises are great when used in a circuit because they lower the risk of injury by depending only on body weight.
Late Pre-Season (March-April)
Late pre-season is where your workouts should get more intense. You should be working on developing your maximum strength, or basically the amount of strength in one repetition. This is where a lot of baseball players go wrong - they try too hard to bench press a lot of weight and wind up with an injury. The goal is to peak with your explosiveness and power during in-season. Medicine ball exercises are great for late pre-season, and there are a variety of exercises you can do with a medicine ball. The medicine ball will help build explosiveness, which leads to more power.
In-Season (May-September)
In-season is all about maintenance. You've already worked hard, developed your explosiveness and power, and now you just want to maintain everything that was gained during pre-season. There should be no strenuous or intense exercise performed, because, again, pushing yourself too hard can lead to injuries. This is also the time to focus on balancing out your muscles. Most baseball players only hit from one side and throw from one side, which means that the other side is not getting as much of a workout. Having unevenness among muscles can also lead to injury - definitely something to prevent.
Off-Season (October-December)
Off-season is the time to take a break from your workout and let your muscles rest. A 3-4 week break is good - too much longer and you risk losing a lot of the muscle that you gained. Towards the end of the off-season, you should start focusing on your foundational strength, and that will guide you back into the early pre-season.
Baseball strength training is all about preventing and avoiding injury by doing a workout that includes a variety of options - weight training, body weight exercises, and medicine ball exercises. Certain exercises should be avoided; for example, you should never press with heavy weights, as it adds too much stress on your shoulders. Rotator cuff injuries can be prevented by using 3-5 pound weights instead of larger weights.

Training for Baseball?
Next spring, I plan on trying out for my high school baseball team. The only experience I’ve had is with Little League in elementary school. What do I need to do to train for tryouts? I’m 15 years old, weigh about 165, am about 5’10”, and am kinda out of shape. Also do you have any tips/advice for me?
Im the same way but im 14 and 6’3 but im trying out for my team and im already training for it , to get urself in shape start running. I wouldnt recommend a treadmill outside is better and can be more challangeing in some cases. Also start lifting weights to build your arms and do leg press’. Do situps and crunches to build ur abs. Start air punching with 5-10 lb weights in ur hands to make them quicker and itll help u swing the bat faster. Take a tennis ball and throw it at all a wall pretty hard rapid fire and try catching it without dropping it itll help with ur hand eyed cordnation. also if u cn go to a batting cage 2-3 times a week just so ur swing will be nice and fresh when tryouts come around. If ur a pitcher work on ur arm with weights but dont stretch it out to much it could make it worse. Just pracitce playing catch and maybe buy one of those nets that bounces the ball back to u. go to some pitching camps and work on ur form. about a month before tryouts do some live pitching with ur friends just to get used to the feeling.
Is my workout plan and diet plan going to help me burn my belly fat?
Hi, I have a few questions about burning my belly fat. first off, i am 5’7″ and weigh 195 lbs. I have been on a workout plan i came up with for a couple of months now and I have lost about 15 lbs but i still have a good amount of belly fat. I run a mile every day before i work out, and i have increased my time from 9 min to 7 min. On Monday, i do my baseball workout(all shoulder, rotator cuff, and wrist exercises with a 5 lb weight), Abs(crunches, knee crunches, bicycles, toe touches, Plank on Elbows and Toes, ab machine, captains chair, and a couple more i got from a magazine while lifting). On Tuesday I do a full leg workout and Abs. On Wednesday, i do my baseball training, full back workout, and Abs. On Thursday, I do bi’s and tri’s, and then abs. On friday i do the same thing i do on Monday except add a cardio workout at the end like the bike or elliptical. For my diet, I am having a bowl of cereal with a banana for breakfast, A sandwich on whole wheat bread, and for dinner i either have chicken with vegetables, or a 6 inch sub at subway. I also throw in 2 snacks a day, either being nutrition snack bars, or fruit. I then take the weekend off to rest but still continue with my diet. Now, since i gave my whole workout and diet plan, i want to know if i am doing the right thing to burn the fat on my belly because i know i have a 6 pack but you cant see it because of my belly fat. Am i doing the correct thing? Is there something else i need to do or that i could do to help? Are these exercises helping my metabolic response increase so i can burn my body fat? If anyone could give me some solid advise, that would be awesome! If you took your time to read this, i appreciate it a lot!
Congratulations on the 15 pounds! You are doing some great stuff! Keep up the good work. Remember to increase intensity and or time on your cardio and weights when you feel like it is to easy. Switching up your routine is also very healthy. Try and keep your pulse rate up between approx. 60-80% of your maximum predicted heart rate during your cardio. Keep it there approx. 15-20 minutes for some great cardiovascular benefits. Let me know if you need to know how to figure this range. As for belly fat I wish I could say there is an easy fix but there isn’t. Look at your parents if they appear to have belly fat problems then this is genetic and probably not going to be easy to lose. Depending on how old you are you may still have some of the pre-adolescent body fat. A lot of people go through this odd stage as they hit puberty. As you become an adult this might slowly disappear especially since you are trying to stay active and conscious of you diet. Any exercise is going to help your metabolism and of course not over eating or eating a large amount of processed and fast foods. I could get very detailed but I don’t want to type a novel and I know of a great book that I suggest to any diet & fitness questions. “Forever Young Diet & Lifestyle” Good luck with your goals you are doing great!
What’s a good diet plan while doing High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)?
I would like to start conditioning for baseball and High Intensity Interval Training {HIIT} sounds like a great idea! I also want to start weight lifting to bulk up, can I do this at the same time? I heard while doing HIIT, you can still gain muscle while burning fat, is that true? In other words, Can I do HITT to burn the fat and still gain the muscle lifting weights?
Also, I need help coming up with a diet plan that will benefit me while doing HIIT and weight lifting. One that will help me bulk up and slim down at the same time
All help is appreciated! Thank You!
You can do HIIT and weight lifting at the same time, yes, and in fact they compliment each other nicely!
I suggest doing HIIT no more than 3 times a week as it’s a big strain on the CNS. In fact, once or twice a week in conjunction with a high intensity weight training program is optimal. You can do normal cardio at other times for CV health and conditioning.
The good thing about HIIT is that you don’t need to do it for long for it to be effective, usually limiting a workout to less than 15 minutes. This keeps the body from utilizing muscle for energy when you run out of muscle, blood and liver glycogen stores, which usually takes about 20 minutes of moderate intensity exercise and less with high intensity.
Very few people can effectively gain much muscle and lose bodyfat at the same time – typically, when you try to do both at the same time you get the worst results from each. This is why going through phases is good. However, if your primary goal is conditioning, I wouldn’t worry too much about this.
A good bodybuilding gaining diet would work well in this situation. Since your primary goal isn’t pure muscle gain, 40-50% of your daily caloric intake should be from low GI carbs, 30-40% from lean proteins/shakes, and 20% good fats, over 5-6+ meals. You’ll want to determine your BMR/RMR to calculate the total number of cals per day you’ll want to consume. With this number, for adding muscle mass add 500 cals/day and go up a little at a time as needed until you start gaining muscle. For fat loss, subtract from your RMR while staying above your BMR.
Practiceing Baseball?
Ok so i’m 13 years old and I love baseball. I usually have no one to play with so, I need some effective ways to practice by myself. Please tell me every single thing you know of that I can do to practice baseball by myself, If there is anything I can by please mention it too. Also If you could give me a good workout/training plan for baseball that would be good too. I basically want to know everything I can do to become great at baseball. I will do whatever it takes to become a great baseball player. Please help.
Thanks.
There are no batting cages near me that I can use…
I practice a lot myself.
Throw pop flys to your self if your a fielder. Do about 20 pop flys with the glove on then do 5-10 without the glove. Dry swing if you want to be a good hitter and examine the parts of your swing that need work and fix any problems. Look up videos of great hitters like: Joe Mauer, Ichiro Suzuki, Magglio Ordonez, Alex Rodriguez, and Jose Reyes. Examine there swings and work on it that way.
Or you can simply toss a ball up to yourself and hit it. As for workout I would suggest more weight room stuff then Cardio-Vascular. Work yourself to muscular fatigue every-time. Which means do it until you feel like your arms or legs are gonna fall of. Pump Iron every other day. Otherwise your power will decrease. Also rest then eat after a workout.
Good luck.
Trying to get healthier…plan?
Hello, I am currently a little over weight….. But i am very muscular, and i am a great athlete…..but my doctor says i need to loose a little bit of weight. I am 5-10 220lbs, but most is muscle.. I play baseball for my high school, and i start training in October for that… I wanted to know if by running a mile- or a mile and a half, would improve my health. I currently started running a mile a day, and it seems to be helping, i just wanted to know the benefits of it, and most of the fatty weight is in my lower stomach, i do alot of crunches but it only hardens my upper stomach, will this help with my lower belly…..anything will help thanks..
all i have been drinking for about 3 years is water and some tea.
All you probably need to do is cut out junk food and fast food and eat healthy.
Question about strength training for baseball?
Hey, i need a good workout schedule for strength training. I’m training for the upcoming baseball season at 24 hour fitness. If you don’t know they have tons of machines that work everything. I plan on working out 4 days a week,,,i just need to know what to do/what muscles to work during each of those days to get my arms in the best condition for baseball season. If you have a good plan or know of a good website please tell me. Thanks!
Lots of thighs/calves. Also train biceps and triceps. Do abdominal exercises as your cool off (last one) every train day.
baseball training?
want to gain more speed and stronger on the bat and better at fielding any suggestions on where i can find these plans on the internet or by experience
For power, do some core strength exercises. Medicine ball throws, rotational exercises, core flexibility, balance drills. For fielding, find some fundamental drills to do daily and remember, you can never take enough ground balls. Get a “soft hands” paddle and use it in place of a glove when you are taking some of those ground balls. For speed, work on sprints and agility stuff. Maybe some downhill sprints.
What are some fun things to do in the Phoenix area?
I’m going to the area at the end of February with my sister, her husband, and their kids (who are 7 & 8). What would be some fun things to do that are kid-friendly? We’re already planning on going to some baseball spring training games & visiting the Grand Canyon. Any other suggestions would be quite helpful! Any must see/do things? Also, if you have any dining out suggestions to any places that you think we should try & are unique to the area would be great to know too! =)

Softball/Baseball training ideas?
spring is coming which we all know is baseball and softball season! i have played softball for three years but stopped about a year and a half ago. i really want to pick back up, but the school team is hard to make because our softball team is really good. To get back in shape, i am devising a workout plan but i want to be sure the workouts im doing are going to benefit softball skills. (throwing/catching accuracy and speed, batting, running speed, etc.) thanks guys!
You can start by strengthening your core and legs then start building on your stamina, interval training is best for softball. Once you’re stronger you can do several speed and agility drills using ladders and cones.
Avoid traditional weight lifting, do functional training because this kind of training mimics sports skill movement which will be beneficial to improving your softball skills.

Vick, Commissioner Discuss Off-Field Problems
Alleged Dog Abuse Is Star’s Latest Off-Season Incident
AP Sports
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (April 29) -Michael Vick confirmed in a TV interview taped Saturday that he met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to discuss problems that have plagued the Atlanta Falcons ‘ quarterback this offseason.
Falcons vice president of communications Reggie Roberts said he hadn’t spoken with Vick since his conversation with Goodell, but the quarterback’s personal problems have clearly embarrassed the NFL and the team.
In the last week, Vick’s name surfaced when police in Virginia arrested his cousin on drug charges at rural property the quarterback owns. Police reported that during their investigation they found neglected animals and evidence of dog fighting, including veterinary medications, treadmills for training and blood-soaked carpets similar to the ones used in fight pits.
In January, Vick was stopped at the Miami airport carrying a water bottle with a secret compartment that allegedly smelled like marijuana residue.
He vowed to make changes in his personal life regarding the kind of people he associates with.
“I’m taking it upon myself and giving everybody my word that things are going to get changed around,” Vick said. “Things are going to get turned around. I have a game plan for it. … The company I keep, a lot of things (have) got to change, and I mean that from the heart.”
IAthletes should be held to the same stardard that I as a private citizen am held to.And when they break laws prosecuted as any average citizen would be and sentenced if guilty by the same standards.
As American citizens there are certain protected rights that apply to all legal citizens. The problem is where do you draw the Commisioners authority?
baseball spring training in florida?
so i’m planning on going to florida for spring training in march. i want to see as many games as possible but also want to have the better chance of seeing major leaguers get some playing time (not just minor leaguers). do you think the big leaguers will more likely be playing in games at the very beginning, like the 1st week of spring training, or towards the end like the last week of march?
thanks
add: yeah i was kind of leaning towards thinking the end….but it would be so much easier to go at the beginning
If you’re trying to see MLB players play, watch for split squad games. A split squad game is where they take the starting 8 fielders and most of the bench and minor leaguers and split into two teams. At that point they then play on the same day, one team at home, one team away.
Your best bet is to figure out what team you want to watch. Some teams, like the Phils, won’t play their players right before they break camp (leave Florida/Arizona). Other teams, like the Mets, will play their pitchers everyday until they break camp. Younger teams will play more starters (Royals, Pirates, Rays) teams that have more veteran players will sit better players more often. Guys in slumps, committing errors and out of shape players get more time. Pitchers coming off of injury get a lot of time. Enjoy the time you’re there. Find one or two kids that are kicking ass and remember their names then you can brag to your friends you saw him play when he was a hay seed. Good luck and have fun!
Training Plan for Baseball?
Im 16 years old and am looking to train over the summer for making my schools baseball team next year. What is the best way to train for the goal at hand and a good way to build muscle?
It really depends on what position you want to play, to be honest. Regardless, number one, working on conditioning. You can NOT get fatigued during the season, so be sure to do a lot of running, agility exercises, rowing, biking, etc, to get your conditioning into a good place.
Next, positional drills. if you want to pitch … pitch. if you want to play outfield, throw, infield, take grounders. focus on the key skill sets for each position. A good idea for all positions, long toss at least 2 days a week (preferably 3 to 4 depending on your schedule) to increase throwing strength, live BP with a variety of pitchers to work on picking up the ball, focusing on spins, etc. and lots of hand eye coordination activities (tennis works well, juggling, whatever it happens to be).
Baseball pitching potential/ advice opinions?
Hey I’m not here to boast on my skills, I just want to know what my potential is. My coaches and peers say that I have a chance, but you never know until it’s really time. I’m going to be a junior in high school, Wisconsin leagues such as Wisconsin allstars, and perfect game I’m the best out there. I’m pretty small and plan on weight training and core workouts all through my offseason, because this is the biggest year of my career. I pitch, and right now top out around 82mph. I’m going to be taller than 6 feet, hope to weigh around 170 by the end of this year, and hit only decent. My curveball is great, and my changeup needs a little work. I know the odds of going pro are so slim you can’t even imagine going pro if you don’t think you can. I’m wondering if I have a chance at the pro’s, or even nice colleges, because my life revolves around baseball. Anybody with expert knowledge I will accept an opinion and advice on how to make myself better. I hope to throw in the higher 80′s or maybe touch the 90′s by the end of my senior year. Let me know, Thanks a lot!
P.S. ~ My GPA isn’t that high, so harvard is out of the question.
if you are going to be taller than 6 feet, that is not necessarily small. The weight training might help a little bit but what you want to do most of all in off-season is long distance throws because it maximizes your armstrength building and lets you evaluate alot of things for yourself after you see where your throws land. If you want to pitch then you have to be the judge of how you want to build armstrength but I suggest doing as much as you can take with ample rest. go to http://www.youtube.com and look and jaeger sports. you really want to be throwing balls 300feet in the air consistantly when your a senior to have any chance.
What do you plan to do now that baseball season is almost over?
It is hard to believe, but this is the final weekend of the baseball season, and for a lot of baseball teams that is not going to the playoffs, their season comes to an end on Sunday. And will mean a very long off season, that they won’t get to play again until Spring Training 2011. So with baseball season almost over, or at least the regular season, what do you plan to do now that it is almost over. Are their going to be other sports teams, that you will be keeping your eye on? Do you plan to watch as many of the playoff baseball games, as many as you can until the World Series ends, and that will mean that will be it for baseball for the year, and even if your team is not going to playing in the playoff this year? And why or why not?
Its all about football now go Ravens.
What is a good baseball workout?
Here is my situation: I am planning on going to the Major League Scouting Bureau tryouts this summer. I am 22, a graduate student, and have a desire to do this. I have been training for a month, but my friend who wanted to do this has kind of flaked out. I have my girl friend soft toss with me but it has been a very solitary experience. Here is my workout: I stretch and warm up with a ten minute jog. I hit two buckets of baseballs off a tee, sometimes three or four. I soft toss when my girlfriend is available. I then do five sprints, down and back between the foul lines in the outfield. I have begun to increase the sprints, tommorow I plan to do six sprints. I then do three sets of pushups to exhausture. I then do fifty good crunches. I long toss when I have a partner. This all takes about an hour and half to two hours I want to know if there are any workouts I can do, with an emphasis on solitary workouts. Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks.
I do other workouts (weights, fielding, etc) as well, but I am getting pissed an disheartened by my friend flaking out as well as others who want to come to the park and then at the last second bail. I am just looking for suggestions on improvement to these workouts or other workouts I can do by myself.
You’re 22 and have probably been playing for sometime now, you should know what workouts you can do to improve your overall game.
But if you’re asking what you can do to better prepare yourself for the tryout, I have a couple of pointers. I went to a few major league scouting camps a couple years ago.
The first thing that they’re going to have you do is run a 60 yard dash. This can literally make or break your entire tryout. Post a good time and they’ll keep an eye on you all day, post a bad one and you may as well go home right then….you won’t make it to the hitting portion of the tryout.
Next they’ll divide the group up by postion and have the outfielders make throws in to the infield, judging their arm strength (either by radar gun or by eye). I’ve never seen anyone get more than 3 throws, so make them count.
Then they usually hit a few ground balls to the infield and have them throw to first. They’ll be evaluating fielding ability and arm strength (again either by radar gun or by eye). I’ve never seen anyone get more than 5 balls, so make them count.
After this they make cuts. Depending on how well you’ve done so far you’ll either be heading home or moving on to the hitting portion of the tryout. I’ve seen the hitting done two different ways, so I can’t tell you which one you will see for sure.
First way, they have the guys they’re still interested in take no more than 10 cuts off a machine and evaluate their hitting ability.
Second way, they have the guys they’re still interested in take an at bat or two against some of the pitchers they kept so far. (Pitchers have been working while you’ve been in the field, some of them got cut too.)
Probably the biggest tips I can give you are: One, to work on your 60. This will be the most important thing you do, a good time can make up for a weakness in another area. Two, long toss and throw to bases. Have your arm as ready to go as possible. Three, take live BP. You know as well as I do that tees and soft toss go a long way, but you may have to face a live pitcher in the hitting part. You’ll want to be on top of your game and not rusty against the real deal.
I hope this has been helpful. Good luck.
Have anyone been to Staten Island Yankees?
I was wondering if anyone here is fan of Staten Island Yankees. PLEASE DO NOT GET CONFUSE WITH NY YANKEES.
In the MTA 2009 balance budget, MTA is planning to elimate Baseball shuttle train from St. George and passenges via ferry must walk 1000 feet to get to ballpark.
Is this outrageous because if game ends at overnight hours, no one want to walk on boardwalk, right even thought it:s safe.
It’s definitely better for the shuttle train to operate–more convenient for the fans who came by the Staten Island train. But, since the distance can be done in a 15 minute walk, it’s unlikely to decrease the number of fans going to the games.
It’s a matter of money. The MTA is try to cut costs where they can in order to keep from increasing fares. I guess they figured that the stadium shuttle was a way to save money.
Which of the following sentence shows correct subject-verb agreement?
1). One of Sam’s children are attending Harvard University.
2). The Senator, along with her aides, are planning to arrive by noon.
3). The baseball team are headed for Atlanta tomorrow.
4). Each of the bus drivers has been trained in first aide.
4 only.
In 2, the subject is Senator. It is singular, therefore “is planning” would be correct.

What should i add to my workout to lose as much fat possible?
Hi, my name is Jon and i am trying to lose all of my belly fat. I am already on a workout plan but i am going to start doing a high intensity interval training on the treadmill 3 days a week with a 1 day break in between. Should i do my the interval training before my regular workout (weight training and baseball training) or after? i had a previous answer to one of my questions saying that if my parents have a belly fat problem, then it could be genetic. My parents don’t have that problem at all, so should i be able to lose all of this fat by adding this interval training. I want to lose all of my fat by the summer time. is this possible if i do all of this while increasing the intensity over time as it gets easy?
Boberto appears to need a pick me up! Wow dude you need to hang out with a more positive crowd! Well Jon I’m suprised you didn’t believe my answer to your prior question. You are second guessing me and asking again. I guess you don’t know me or my background so I understand. And you want a novel. So your parents don’t have a lot of belly fat. Great! But you don’t get rid of fat cells they shrink! So even if you are able to shrink them you are still going to have to be conscious always of your diet and exercise or they will plump right back up. You can always gain fat cells you can’ t lose unless you have surgery. You can burn a lot of calories doing interval training, circuit training, just cardio, just weights, and even modifying daily activities like taking the stairs, parking at the end of the parking lot, etc. You can do your workouts how ever you feel like fits your routine best. So if you like weights before cardio that is perfect. Either way you are benefiting tremendously. I personally prefer to do my cardio first because I feel looser and more driven to keep my heart rate going during my weights. That is my preference. Today I chose to do weights first and then cardio. I felt like I need to switch it up for some extra motivation after a long day at work. I love to lift weights! When it comes to your meals you can eat 3 balanced meals with a healthy snack if you need it or you can eat 5-6 small balanced meals with healthy snacks in between. Always drink water to stay hydrated. If you feel thirsty you are already on you way to dehydration. Try and avoid drinking your calories. I would also suggest doing a diary of your daily food intake. Write down the carbs, calories, fats, protein etc. Having this visible might be a wake up call to how much food you are actually consuming. A lot of people once they get into an exercise routine actually consume more food without realizing it. This is some daily diet advise. 3-4 servings of fruits and veggies. a serving size of these is 1/2 a cup. monounsaturated fats are healthy fats. 1 serving of meat is about the size of you palm. use olive oil or canola oil instead of crisco or butter. eat red meats that you find the word “loin” in they are leaner. eat chicken without the skin. a male can have 2 4oz servings of preferrably red wine a day. of course avoid processed foods. stick to the outside of the grocery store the food is usually fresher there. avoid any bread or pasta that has enriched or bleached as the first ingredient. I could go on get the book I suggested. Seriously! It is written by Dr. James O’keefe and his wife Joan O’keefe RD. Oh and to lose weight 1 pound = 3500 calories.

I would like to stay near st. pete, lakeland, if possible.
any (cheap/nice) ideas lol?
Hey, I am a Tampa native. There are dozens and dozens of small inexpensive motels right on the beach in a string from Clearwater down to St Pete. I couldn’t name them for you I’m afraid, we’ve always just driven over and cruised around looking for a place that looks cool. One thing to consider: it is actually a very long commute from St Pete to Lakeland. I think it would be about an hour and a half at least, maybe worse. Like you said, there isn’t much over there in Lakeland but you might like it better on the east side of Tampa like maybe Brandon, or Plant City which is in between. That way you are between Lakeland and the beaches and close to places like Ybor City, Channelside, Bush Gardens and the other stuff Tampa has to offer. As for exact rates, I can’t help you but you should be able to pull up these areas online and find some hotels nearby. You might also look it up under Florida State Fairground which is on that side of town also. Good Luck and Have Fun!

Thursday – swimming
Friday- ( open for a workout)
Saturday – swimming
Sundays- off
I know all the styles of swimming but still learning butterfly. Is this a good workout and what should I add for Friday? Age: 16 used to be a baseball player. Starting to swim. Trying to get a good starting plan for the summer.
GREAT DRYLAND regiment. I’d suggest you add exercises for your upper and lower back. Plus, if you’re getting serious about swimming competitively, you’ll need to add a great deal more swimming. Consider that competitive swimmers swim 6 days per week.
Whats a good traing routine for baseball?
I’m planning on trying out for baseball this spring. What a good training routine for a person whos 5’9” and has never lifted before? Tryouts are in a month.
try chasing a chicken and catching it that ought to train ya enough with a lil cardio workout you outa be great good luck and enjoy the game.
Should I train/exercise for backpacking trips with an overloaded pack?
I was thinking about loading my pack with gear/weight (properly distributed) that actually weighs MORE than what I plan to take on my trips.
I planned to walk 1-2 miles a day with this gear on my back to prepare for longer trips.
I’m hoping to get the same effect a baseball player gets when he slips a donut weight over his bat before stepping to the plate.
Is this a good idea? Do any experienced backpackers do this?
Yes. This is an effective way of training for a backpacking trip and is frequently done. However instead of walking for distance each day, you may want to hike for time. Hiking 2 miles an hour is not as good as hiking for 3 miles an hour. This will increase your cardio and you will have an easier time on your actual hike.
Pitchers and catchers report tomorrow! Can you believe it? BQ?
Soon we will be watching baseball! All be it spring training baseball, but it’s baseball.
BQ Do you plan to go to any minor league games?
bob and ben it depends on the team some reported today, others report sometime this week. All teams report between the 13th and the 18th. Link with reporting dates for all teams below.
http://www.springtrainingonline.com/features/reporting-dates.htm
Dugout Doug it may be fairly simply to understand and believe but please keep in my mind I am a simpleton. My powers of perception leave much to be desired.
I’m so excited. I’ve been ready for the baseball season since the world series ended.
Do I have a shot at the MLB?
I’m 13 years old, 5”8 and 125 lbs.
I am the starting shortstop for my AAA baseball team.
I’m very fast, great contact/batting for average hitter, and a decent power hitter.
I do baseball specific workouts including 100 push-ups, 100 sit- ups, 100 squats, sprints, wrist workouts and do 100+ swings every day.
During the summer i’m joining an infielding and hitting clinic at a great baseball training facility.
On my off days i’m going to bike down to the batting cages near my house and try to get some good swings in.
My plan is to try out for the best AAA team in the province next year and try to improve my game everyday; I know it’s a longshot but, do you think I have any chance at the MLB?
Your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
You’ve got a great start. I wouldn’t plan too far ahead however. One level at a time is the best way. Next step will be the best possible high school player. College after that. If it doesn’t work out you’ll at least have the degree to be like the rest of us. Good luck though.
Florida Spring Training – Baseball – 2008 – Start date for games?
Looking to make plans to go to Florida for baseball spring training in late Feb. 2008. Want to use miles for plane tickets so need to plan early. I am 99% certain the actual games will start about Thursday February 28th for at least some teams. However, it’s a year off so can’t get confirmation. Anybody have knowledge on this subject?
I believe the first game is Feb. 26th, which is Florida and St. Louis. http://WWW.tickco.com is an excellent site for tickets and information.
Guys; do you tell someone you are pregnant if you don’t plan on keeping the baby?
I am 32 years old; I have two children from a previous marriage that ended several years ago. I met a guy in April who plays baseball for a minor league team whom has spring training in my home town. He lives almost 2000 miles from me. He is 25. If he lived here, I would consider a long term relationship with him, as he would me. We get along great, sex is great, we have become really good friends. We talk several times a day, but both of us know he is leaving in a month. I just found out 2 weeks ago that I am pregnant. I am on birth control, so this came as a shock! The option of him moving in with me is not one. I have two kids that barely know him. He has a family up north and baseball dream that we do not fit in to. I was thinking about having an abortion and just not ever telling him. Is it wrong of me to do that? I mean, if I am not going to have the baby, why put him through this as well! He is really a great person, I have such respect for him and his family whom I have never met! Just some honest answers please! Part of me thinks he deserves to know, the other doesn’t want to hurt him..
Where can I find investors or lenders for a new indoor baseball facility?
Im trying to put together a business plan to attract investors or lenders to build an indoor baseball facility in the Kansas City area. Its use would be mainly for youth team and individual training, as well as indoor winter leagues. Can anyone put me in touch with the right people to get rolling in the right direction? Thank you
try http://www.breadstreet.com they have private individual investors ,angel investors, venture capital groups, small business investment banks, and other avenues for getting funded
What is the best book or training plan for baseball players?
If you a player and are in a situation where you don’t have a good coach to train you then you will probably want a good video program so you can emulate the way the footwork, glove work and throwing motion are done. Plus you get to see how to do the drill properly.
If you are a coach then it is even more important to see the videos.
Backyard Baseball Drills by Marty Schupak is exceptional.
Skills and Drills by Bragg Stockton is very good too.
The best video I have seen on Pitching is The Pitching Edge by Tom House
Training Tips for Middle School Track?
I am an 8th grader in my middle school and I don’t have the desire to play baseball this year. So in it’s place, I want to start training for track. I just came back from running a mile, resting, and doing the 800. Do you have any tips that could help prepare me for the spring. I plan to run 4 times a week and work out at the YMCA 3 of those 4 times.
With all the working out you plan to do you’ll be in great shape to run fast and far. However, remember that in the beginging not to push yourself to far, you could risk injury or other serious medical problems. Also, dont forget to do a warm up and cool down, because both are just as important as the running in between.
Minnesota Twins Spring Training in Ft. Myers, FL?
I will be in Ft. Myers from March 6-13. I plan on taking in 1 Minnesota Twins spring training game, but I’m really more interested in seeing the minor league affiliates that will be practicing in that complex. Does anyone know how to get into those practices? I house minor league baseball players for the Minnesota Twins in Elizabethton, TN and I would like to see some of the young men that I’ve known over the last few years.
Like most clubs, the Twins minor leaguers train in the same complex as the big leaguers, in the case, at Lee County Sports Complex. The minor leaguers don’t play games in the big stadium, but on the back fields.
The Twins’ Minor League complex is a part of the Lee County Sports Complex and those fields can be seen from the parking lot. Fans can wander the back fields with no restrictions.
You should be able to get in and see some of the minor leaguers. If you go on a day when the big club is playing their game on the road, you might have a better change to intermingle with the minor league players.
Here is an informative site.

Trying out for baseball team?
Hey i want to know any tips to tryout for high school baseball team. I’m a junior in high school and i haven’t played baseball since 5th grade. However I always watch baseball on TV(yankees baby haha) and I know the game very well from watching it. I play two other varsity sports ( football and wrestling) so conditioning would be easy for me.
I plan to try out as a CF as i’m very fast in football(4.6 40 yd) and hopefully it would translate to baseball and maybe pitching as I am a lefty. I can throw pretty good at 70 MPH and I havn’t been trained to pitch in years
My question is what should I do to prepare for the tryouts and do I have the odds of making my team?
btw i’m 5’9 150 so i’m not gonna be the tallest person on the field.
5’9″ and the tallest??wow. im a sophmore and throw 70 and i dont know if ill make it. but if you practice you sond like a shoe in.
Thanks.
ok kid well your still young
so if you plan on lifting stay light, you dont want to hurt yourself too early.
if you can buy a hit a way and attach it to the nearest poll and use that, if helps you hit balls at all heights and helps your timing, swing for about 15 mins a day also do some swings with a weighted bat
if you can find some one to play with play catch for about 15 mins also start out small and stretch out the distance you throw gradually.
make sure to stretch before and after so you dont pull any muscles
good luck kid.
Beginning Baseball, accidentally bought T-balls?
Hey, I just bought a set of baseballs and found out they were T-balls when I got home. Opened them already so too late. Since Im beginning baseball anyways should I just use these to train. I don’t plan to get serious, Im heading to senior year of high school so its a little late. I just plan on playing with some friends. We like to compete with each other. Should I just practice with these T-balls for now and get hardballs later, i heard hardballs are bad on a beginners shoulders anyways.
-Thanks
Use them in side toss drills. It doesn’t matter about the size off the ball in that drill, in fact smaller is better and will increase hand eye coordination. Sorry you bought the wrong balls
Varsity baseball training, and I need help?
im now a sophmore in high school, and next year (my junior year) i want to play baseball.
(about 3 years ago i stopped playing baseball and only played basketball, because i was told high school basketball and baseball run at the same time, so i only played basketball. so i havent played baseball in a good 3 years.)
anyway, im 5″11, 160 lbs.
i play outfield/ shortstop
i need drills, workout plans, ANYTHING.
running & weight lifting plans
batting, footwork, catching & pitching workouts
thanks in advance
Play catch and long toss and have someone hit pop flies and ground balls to you. Also go to a batting cage and hit off a tee. For a workout plan just Google it and you’ll find a few links.
Good Luck

Workout looks ok. One thing I’d incorporate a little would be band exercise for shoulders. Also using a swiss ball for the core exercise helps with strength and stability. I’d add a lot of long toss into the actually baseball work. Hitting off a tee would probably be more beneficial than just taking so many dry cuts.
Spring Training Baseball?
Hello. I am going to ask a girl to prom at a spring training game if I can. I plan to do it at Citizen’s Bank on March 30th. Are spring training games still announced, have the scoreboard that I can have something put up on? Like what is the atmosphere during these games? Are they similar to normal games. Please no comment on what I am doing….just insight about if Spring Training Games are similar in atmosphere to Regular Season Games.
that sounds good , it would make us be thiner in this season
baseball training for 5 days to develop?
i want to train for baseball next year and i need a trainig plan for 5 days im trying to throw harder, hit the ball harder and farther, and have a quicker bat speed
Run before you do any baseball. Sprints and long distance. Once you are done running warm up and do 50 sit-ups and 50 push ups. After this throw and warm up. Take infield! Work on form and throws. Go through situations and practice. After this do some TONS of soft toss and tee work. After this hit some live batting practice, about 300 pitches. You may want to get a hitting instructor to work on your form, and trust me form is everything. At the end of your practice run long distance again. Lift weights in between practices. Do that for about 3 or 4 monthes and you will be a machine. This is what my team did and I played select baseball for 5 years.
I’m a girl who wants to play varsity baseball?
I’ve played three years of rec when i was 11 and 12. and this past summer i played babe ruth {13-15} and i was fourteen. i plan on playing my last year in babe ruth next summer. currently i am a sophomore but my junior year i would like to try out for my school’s varsity team. this would give me a year to prepare for tryouts and i’m thinking about getting a membership at a baseball gym where i could train 4-5 times a week until March of 2010 when the season starts. i know this is pretty ridiculous but I’m a big dreamer and I just want to play hardball. Some opinions and suggestions would really help though. Thanks!
thanks guys! this helps! i know half the guys who plays varisty because they all played in the summer league with me. they were all pretty cool with it {of course some didn’t like me, even a few on my team} and my coach had experience with other girls who had played in the past. the president of the league definitley wasn’t thrilled with me being there, he made that pretty obvious. so i can deal with the sexist stuff. and i just remembered i do know the varsity coach so i’ll talk to him. i know with only a few year of baseball this will be harder for me but with training i think it’s possible. and in the babe ruth league there really wasn’t much of a challenge for me except for the jv and varisty guys
I think it i great. They cannot stop you from trying out just because you are a girl so don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it!!! If you are good enough you will be just fine. You’ll just have to work extra hard (sadly) because you are a girl and some people might not take you seriously at first.
Good luck, I really hope you do this!!
I asked a girl out on a baseball game what do you think?
I like this girl…I asked her if she went to a baseball game and if she liked it..
she said she’s more of a basektball fan and that when she went long time ago, she fell asleep
but I want to reverse this impression she has w/ baseball games so what I did was/and planning on doing is:
I told her to leave Friday night open from 5pm-whenever
and meet me at a train station so we can take the train to the stadium.
Then I was gonna buy food (garlic fries, etc) and share w/ her
and talk of course
I’m thinking about asking her out and I came up w/ 2 things…cuz I really don’t like asking the traidtional way (“will you go out w/ me ? o r will you be my gf?”)
1) I play a game…and put a wager so if I win, she goes out w/ me…if not she doesn’t have to (I know she likes me too so I decided maybe this tactic?)
2) I pour a drink and tell her if she drinks that she goes out w/ me
I know it’s super corny but that’s all I can come w/
ANY ideas/suggestions on what I can do at the baseball game
That seems nice and original! At the baseball game…just be yourself for one…maybe joke around about the game, how the home team is doing or their mascot. Or, you could go for a walk around the park if she isn’t interested….maybe buy some snacks and enjoy the time together. Have fun!
I’m in need of a good weight – room workout plan for a senior Varsity baseball player with collegiate hopes?
I’m a rising senior and hope to play in College. This is my third year starting Varsity. I’m 6’2. 185 lbs. I need to get a little faster, and strengthen my core just a bit. I have what it takes, I just need a good work out plan. Please only answer if you have a good knowledge in the athletic training field. Thanks. baseball_wxman@yahoo.com if you have any useful information that’s my email.
You didn’t mention if you are a position player or pitcher.
First check out Allan Jaegers long toss program whether you are a pitcher or not. It’s excellent, pro’s as well as many college teams use his program. So that should be one part of your plan, taking care of your arm, even if you are a position player.
Then check out Mark Frens. He is a trainer that works with baseball players. Search him out on Google.
He has many great ideas. For example, almost all of his exercises are done on one leg because you don’t play baseball sitting or laying down.
Also check out Paul Reddick. He has many links to baseball trainers.
If you can afford it, I would strongly suggest finding a personal trainer in your home town. It could cost around thousand bucks for 3 months or so but it would be really worth it if he/she was really up to date on training. Get a part time job to pay for it. You would not be sorry.
One other source for you is the baseball coach at Wichita State University, http://www.weighttrainingforbaseball.com.
He has a lot of great stuff.
Good Luck,
Victor
getting ready for baseball in highschool?
im a sophmore about to finish i plan on doing something called going vertical which is speed training its really good and go to batting cages day until next year to get my hitting up i just dont know how to get my throwing arm more acurate i can throw from outfeild to home plate i just wanna work on catching what can i do to get my catching and throwing better.
NEVER take your first step in on the ball! It is way easier coming in and making a play on a ball than it is to run back and make a play. If you take your first step in you loose alot trying to run back catch it and potentionally make a throw somewhere. Always make your first step backwards and get under the ball, don’t catch it off to the side.
Chances of me getting accepted to U Illinois Urbana Champaign or UC Santa Barbara?

-Intern at a dentist office over the summer.
-Has a CPR aand Lifeguard Training certificate and lifeguards over the summer.
-Has reached at least 300 hours of community service (takes part in the Red Cross).
Other notes:
-my school is a blue ribbon school.
-i live in New Jersey.
- I plan on majoring in Bio.
I think you have a fighting chance of getting in to either of these schools, but I have to say, have you seen UCSB? If you had, you wouldnt be thinking of going to Urbana. Santa Barbara is a gorgeous place to spend four years, and it is literally right on the coast – you can watch the seals from campus and do your envi sci project in the lagoon. They have a bike path all around campus and the kids use their skateboards to commute to class all winter long – can’t do that in Urbana!
On the other hand, if you are going to pay out of state tuition, why not go to one of the fine private schools back east. You have decent marks, so there are plenty of schools that would take you… take a good look around!
Good luck.
What’s a good bowflex xtreme workout routine? ?
I just got my bowflex and theres so many different workouts it baffles me. I use to train for baseball and now I just need to train for muscle and tone. I’m looking for a full body workout and I can workout 5+ days a week. If anyone can help me plan a workout it would be greatly appreciated.
I think I an going to buy the i-Trainer. Of my search for the same question, for the same machine, I found the following (below) at bowflexinsider. The advice seemed to minimize changing and maximizing the workout:
The first exercise is the seated leg press on the bench model Bowflex® machines. Do the squat if you have an upright machine (Xtreme line). The leg press and squat not only hit the quads, but they also work the glutes and hamstrings when hip extension and knee extension are performed.
From that exercise, you can move right into the seated or standing calf raise. This is an easy transition from a leg press or squat by stabilizing the knee and hip while performing ankle plantar flexion.
From there, lock the seat in place on the bench models, or disconnect the bar and hook up the handles to the cables coming from the lower pulleys and do a lat row from a seated or standing position. This exercise not only hits the lats, but also the biceps and numerous trunk stabilizers.
Now put on the bench and sit sideways, or stand off to one side of the upright Bowflex models and do a trunk rotation. This exercise hits all of the core muscles from front to back. Just remember to turn the other direction to do the other side.
Last, but not least, you need to hit the chest and triceps by doing a seated chest press. This exercise also puts tension on the anterior deltoid giving you a well rounded finishing exercise.
Make the least amount of changeovers and use as little time possible in between exercises to add a little cardio benefit. Got 20, give me 5!!!
i’ve been feeling depressed can you help me???
Well you see i have like 2 friends but they have other friends who hate me and never want me around. it’s like that song Welcome to my life is my life story:( check it out on google if you have never herd it it’s by simple plan. Well i havnt ever had a gf, but im 13 so im not really wrried about that. But it seems that everyone in my school hates me. I think my only true friends are online, but they dont even know me that well. Im average size with short brown hair and blue eyes, i only weigh like 84lbs though. i play baseball and bowl and i just joined babe ruth (advanced baseball training) and everyone started to gigle and said that i couldnt do it:( i feel like veryonehates me why is that?
Im also a nerd. But ya know what i dont care IM A NERD AND IM PROUD!!!
You know what? Its not just an age thing. People are mean. In general. They can be hurtful and spiteful. Try and ignore it because you will go through many changes in your life. But, somethings you will not forgot. Try not to dwell on what they say. You might be considered a nerd now but nerds can make pretty good money, then you can create a great life for yourself. Good luck!!
This questions is for Athletes who are in Varsity Sports or College Baseball Please Advise?
I’m 17 about to be a Senior in High School in August, this year I plan to Try-Out for Baseball again I have been playing Baseball for about 9 years but for some reason I can’t deal with the pressure of Varsity so I haven’t made the team. This summer I plan to do extreme training to get better and in the best shape of my life and faster in running.
What are some drills or training techniques I can use for all those thing I mentioned?
Also How can I deal with the pressure of Trying Out and out playing everybody?
the great players can shine when the pressure is on. just keep practicing and you will be confident with your skills and you will be able make the team.
How do I go about developing my photos for sale?
I began taking photos of my nephews in youth baseball and football a couple of years ago. Soon after I was taking photos of their teammates and handing them out to their parents. I seemed to be doing a pretty good job because they became quite popular. I was approached by a parent that mentioned to me that I could make a little extra money form this hobby. I have no proffesional training and I never took a course. I have an old cannon eos and a EF 80-200mm lens. I have always paid retail for my film developing. I’ve done some research as to how to solicit my work and gaining access to high school sporting events, also establishing a DBA. I would also look into upgarding my equipment. I just haven’t figured out how to go about developing my proofs and developing photos that are ordered in various sizes. Do I need to buy the printer or is it possible to pay someone wholesale for developing? This can make or break my plan.
a local photograper made an agreement with k-mart for a reduced price
that is all I know about it

Should I rent a car or ride the train?
We are planning a baseball trip, where we fly into Syracuse and (drive or ride) to Cooperstown, then Boston, and end in New York City, and we are trying to figure out what would be cheaper. Any suggestions?
No train goes to Cooperstown. That means you will have to rent a car to drive there from Syracuse, and to drive from Cooperstown to Boston.
You can take Amtrak from Boston to NYC though.
Can anyone recommend a good baseball training program?
I just finished playing High School baseball and am now in summer ball. I play in a league which plays about 4 games per week. I also play tournaments. I need a good training plan for off days and game days. Can anyone recommend anything?
I also play about 3 days a week. I usually trade off each day between strength and running exercises it works for me also throw a few batting cage or bullpen (if you pitch) practices if possible.
